Umina beach has officially become the kids favourite beach. The water is warm, there’s no “beach smell” and the waves are consistent and big enough for the kids to spend hours catching waves on the bodyboard but not threatening for the parents to feel there’s danger. It’s a friendly safe beach for families.
It has been a while since we last spent a full day together at the beach. Today we went with friends and the kids had a blast together, catching waves all day and only got out of the water to eat maccas, drink vanilla/chocolate shake and lemonade iceblock.
We came home looking beetroot, many shades darker, sands stuck on our skin and in our hair and as for myself, many “victory bruises” as Alannah put it from getting smashed with my many attempts at catching waves. It does not look as easy the kids made it look. They spread their hands out as they come into the shore and grin like a happy bird landing. I have no doubt I drank over 4Ls of seawater and my body was pushed and tumbled around like I was put in a blender or a tumbling dryer at full speed.
