Season comes and goes just like a blink of an eye.

There are good days and there are bad days. It comes in waves. This autumn afternoon was great.

The other day when I was asked in an interview for a role – when and what I have achieved that made me feel happy and proud about and to give an example, my mind quickly turns to this session of mine. I just remember how my heart felt in one fleeting moment – hoping to have made a little difference to one little girl.

I asked baby girl as I would during a shoot “How’s school? Do you love school and have you got many nice friends?”

She was listening to me intently and I noticed for a split second that she went quiet and a look of sadness in her eyes and I could feel that something wasn’t right. But she didn’t say anything.

Yichelle shared with me that she’s having a hard time at school and a bit of bullying and hitting happening. My heart. No kids should have to experience this. No one should ever have to experience this. And she’s so young. We all know how cruel kids can be sometimes without realising them doing it. We have all been there.

I spent my time playing with them, with both baby girls and I told them that I love their playfulness and I think they are wonderful. They ran and jumped and laughed and was just being who they are.

At the end of the shoot, I hugged her and said “If aunty could join you in school, I would. But aunty is an adult and have to work. But I want you to know that I love being your friends and hanging out with you today and I had so much fun with you.” She listened with a big smile on her face. “If your friends are mean to you at school, come home and tell mummy and daddy or you tell me and I bet when we talk you’ll think they are just being silly and we will laugh at what happened. You just remember that aunty think you are cute and that I love playing with you.” She giggled and pulled me in for a hug.

That fleet of a moment imprinted in my mind and heart. My wish is for her to feel beautiful and happy. For her to feel seen and heard. For her to feel accepted for who she is. I hope that for everyone. Not just kids, but adults too.

We are all so protective of our kids and no parents would want to see their kids go through this experience so please open the topic and talk to your kids. Kids are born with kind spirits, they really don’t know they are being mean unless someone explain to them their actions. It’s a sensitive topic but need to be addressed. We, as parents and adults are the ones who are raising and the ones who can help to protect the next generations.
