Today is kids day with Aunty Quynh Anh.
The kids see her as the cool Aunty. Tyler gets shy and would dress up cool to impress her. He would put in the effort to look good. He denies it but I can tell he does. Whereas my taste is considered as old fashioned, Aunty Quynh Anh has a cool taste in clothes.
For me it’s important for the kids to have someone older (other than us parents) to look up to, to trust, to feel comfortable, to confide to, to be their friends, to be silly with. There’s no doubt that there will be days ahead where their view will clash with ours, things they won’t want to share. It’s natural. I hope in those days, they can find comfort and able to talk to my sister.
They came home tonight with matching bucket hats and new sports clothes. Aunty was full of compliments with how well behaved and how encouraging and supportive they were to her to try indoor climbing. They also gloat about this massive ice-cream cup they ordered to share but couldn’t finish.
At 3am, Alannah was sitting on the toilet with a tummy ache. She said it might be the pumpkin soup I made. I told her that it’s more likely that it’s all the ice-cream she stuffed inside her tummy and she giggled.
